Lockheed Martin and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) have entered into a agreement to partner on the multi-mission combat ship (MCS).
The MCS is a next-generation surface combatant that will be based on a DSME hull design, and is intended for the corvette market.
The partnership will bring together Lockheed’s experience in developing and integrating complex systems for a range of US and international naval vessels, and DSME’s expertise in producing naval vessels for the Republic of Korea and other international customers.
Lockheed Martin Mission System and Training Littoral Ships and Systems vice-president Joe North said: "DSME’s MCS hull design coupled with Lockheed Martin’s expertise in programme and systems integration will allow the team to bring this capable ship to the international marketplace at an affordable price."
The MCS is said to be a highly manoeuvrable, multi-role combatant featuring hallow draft, automation, and a flexible crew size.
It features an open technology that will help to integrate systems, sensors, and weapons capabilities.
