Saab and Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) have signed an expanded Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their partnership in developing underwater technologies.

This MoU, signed at the Sweden – Singapore Royal Business Forum, marks the first Swedish state visit to Singapore.

DSTA Operations deputy chief executive Roy Chan said: “Collaborating with an industry leader like Saab enables DSTA to push the boundaries of what’s possible in underwater defence technology.

“Through this expanded MoU, we will build on our existing partnership to co-develop advanced solutions that not only meet evolving security demands but also position Singapore at the forefront of maritime resilience and innovation.”

DSTA and Saab will now jointly explore underwater solutions to build and safeguard capabilities for improved maritime security and resilience.

As part of this collaboration, both parties will conduct joint studies on operational concepts and emerging technologies.

The latest expanded MoU builds on a 2023 agreement that focused on long-term supportability, people development, and smart technologies.

Saab deputy CEO Anders Carp said: “This expanded MoU builds upon the fruitful cooperation between Saab and DSTA in the naval domain and reflects our shared commitment to underwater technology innovation. Together, we will leverage our expertise to strengthen maritime security.”

In August 2024, Saab and DSTA signed a contract for the delivery of six composite Multi-Role Combat Vessel (MRCV) superstructures.

This deal included the detailed design, production, and final assembly of the MRCV superstructures, further strengthening the partnership between the two entities.
