Patria has announced the completion of its delivery of its SONAC ACS acoustic minesweeping systems to the Royal Norwegian Navy.

This technology has been operational since spring 2024 and is designed to counter influence mines with acoustic triggering capabilities.

The Patria SONAC ACS system has the ability to generate high sound pressure over a broad frequency range, outsmarting mine algorithms.

It can simulate the acoustic signatures of various ships, serving as a versatile tool for both Mine Setting Mode (MSM) and Target Simulation Mode (TSM).

Developed from Patria’s knowledge in vessel signature measurement, influence mine technologies, and minesweeping, the SONAC ACS system allows for easy and real-time remote operation.

It allows operators to select desired acoustic signals from a signature library or design custom signals for specific missions.

The user-friendly interface of the Patria SONAC ACS ensures smooth operation during missions, providing operators controls, settings, and system status monitoring.

It features a compact and lightweight design and can be integrated and operated within modern Uncrewed Surface Vehicle (USV) based minesweeping operations.

Royal Norwegian Navy squadron commander Bengt Berdal said: “We are excited to operate Patria SONAC ACS as part of our MCM influence mine sweeping system following the recent retirement of our high-end ELMA-AGATE sweep.

“SONAC ACS has so far offered excellent handling and very promising performance, operation and reliability. The Norwegian Navy considers this new influence minesweeping capability as one of the most sophisticated influence minesweeping in service today.”

This comes after Patria won a contract with the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency for the supply of Patria Sonac ACS Acoustic Minesweeping Systems to the Royal Norwegian Navy in 2021.
