Rafael Advanced Defence Systems and Elbit Systems have secured a contract to provide new naval decoy control and launching system (DCLS) for the NATO European countries’ new frigates.
The contract, which is scheduled to be fulfilled over the next four years, involves equipping five vessels with the systems.
Rafael and Elbit will collaborate to provide an integrated solution that includes Elbit’s DESEAVER MK-4 stabilised and trainable DCLS, as well as a suite of Rafael’s advanced decoy countermeasures.
Rafael has developed both passive and active decoy countermeasures designed to counteract threats from anti-ship missile seekers.
RAFAEL Land and Naval Systems Division EVP and general manager Tzvi Marmor said: “We are committed to delivering cutting-edge, combat-proven electronic warfare solutions that enhance naval operational capabilities.
“With decades of operational experience and a deep understanding of the evolving threats in the maritime domain, RAFAEL is dedicated to providing reliable and innovative EW systems that ensure mission success and safeguard our allies at sea.”
The company’s range of passive RF and IR decoy countermeasures, including BEAM TRAP, SMOKE TRAP, and WIZARD, has been recently enhanced with the C-GEM active decoy, which is specifically tailored to neutralise ASM threats.
Elbit’s DESEAVER MK-4 countermeasure dispensing system (CMDS) is a maritime electronic warfare (EW) solution created to address complex missile attack scenarios.
As part of Elbit’s integrated EW suite, the CMDS provides heightened situational awareness in maritime environments and the capability to counteract diverse threats.
The integration of the suite’s electronic countermeasure capabilities with the launcher’s decoy system improves a ship’s defence against various threats.
The integrated system is designed to deploy a variety of decoy rounds from multiple launchers, enabling it to counter simultaneous threats.
It represents the fourth generation of naval EW dispensing systems with enhanced soft-kill anti-missile defence capabilities.
The system features trainable and stabilised launchers that can swiftly and accurately deploy decoys based on anti-missile algorithms.
It supports the launch of both passive and active decoys and is fully integrated with other ship combat systems.
The transition from legacy fixed decoy launching systems to the operational, trainable, and stabilised DESEAVER MK-4 DLS is expected to improve the survivability of vessels in new combat scenarios.
Elbit Systems ISTAR & EW general manager Oren Sabag said: “This award adds to the many contracts we have secured in recent years for EW self-protection solutions across the naval and air domains, highlighting our advanced and proven technologies.
“The modern battlefield demands innovative and effective EW self-protection solutions, and we are proud to deliver these advanced systems that enhance the effectiveness and self-protection of forces.”
