Rheinmetall has been selected by the Royal Malaysian Navy to deliver fire control radars and electro-optical systems in support of its new second-generation patrol vessels littoral combat ships (SGPV LCS).

Under the contract, Rheinmetall will supply 12 TMX/EO Mk2 fire control radars and six electro-optical tracking module Mk2 (TMEO Mk2) for the patrol vessels.

The fire control technology will be deployed to control Malaysian Navy’s new patrol vessel’s primary and secondary armament.

As part of the deal, the company will also provide spare parts and training, as well as technology transfer component to the Malaysia Navy.

Deliveries under the contract are scheduled to start in 2015 and run through to 2020.

Designed to conduct combat missions such as anti-piracy, sea control and denial, the ships will also be used for counter-terrorism, drug interdiction and anti-smuggling operations, oil and gas platform protection, search and rescue, fisheries protection, environmental protection and humanitarian support.

Rheinmetall has also been awarded an additional contract to supply six Oerlikon Skyshield systems to an undisclosed Asian customer, including delivery of ammunitions and logistic, as well as integrated MANPADS for surface-to-air missile.

Under a separate contract, the company will train Kuwait’s air defense personnel to operate deployed Rheinmetall-built air defence assets, scheduled for three years, in addition to providing infrastructure, including construction of training centres.

The total value of the orders received by the company is €280m.
