The Iranian Navy will inspect all foreign vessels passing through national territorial waters following a parliamentary order, according to navy commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari.

Sayyari said that in the case of approval by the Islamic Consultative Assembly, the navy would reciprocate any possible threat of inspection of Iranian cargo ships, according to the Fars news agency.
On 9 June, the UN Security Council imposed a new round of sanctions on Iran, including the inspection of Iranian vessels.
Iran’s Foreign Policy Commission Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi said that unilateral inspection of Iranian ships was not compatible with the Islamic Republic’s might and national pride.
The deployment of alien forces in the region as well as in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman was also not acceptable to Iran, Boroujerdi said.
