The US Navy’s Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Lakehurst has inaugurated its new aircraft launch and recovery equipment (ALRE) technology integration centre (A-TIC).
The new facility is intended to help integrate ALRE systems before they are delivered for deployment on-board the navy vessels.
It will also provide the NAWCAD Lakehurst engineers with a shipboard representative environment, which will enable the testing and integration of new or existing ALRE systems and allow them to proactively troubleshoot operability issues.
NAWCAD commander and Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Research and Engineering assistant commander rear admiral Shane Gahagan said: “With technology continuously evolving, it’s important for us to ensure our systems are integrated and working seamlessly together before they go out to our sailors and marines in the fleet.
“I commend the NAWCAD Lakehurst team for their great work and for finding ways to innovate and test so we can meet the needs of the warfighter more quickly, efficiently and affordably.”
A-TIC will replicate the systems used by sailors on-board the US Navy’s aircraft carriers to include shipboard network connections and to-scale facilities such as flight deck control and air operations.

The facility will enable engineers to test the effect of ALRE system updates on other ALRE and non-ALRE systems, in addition to how they affect the entire shipboard environment.
NAVAIR Support Equipment and ALRE Department director Kathleen P. Donnelly said: “The A-TIC facility will support the growth of next-generation ALRE capabilities and ensure their quick and efficient integration into the fleet.
“The amount of time and money that will be saved through this facility is something we are very excited about.”
The facility is scheduled to become fully operational in the second quarter of next year.
