Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding has partnered with Saab to compete for the Brazilian Navy’s Tamandaré-class Corvette (CCT) project.

The two companies will be responsible for the delivery of four Tamandaré-class ships to the navy if their bid is successful.

Saab intends deliver a complete combat solution that includes the advanced 9LV Combat Management System (CMS) under the proposal, in addition to a variety of high-performance mission equipment.

"We believe our proposal meets the requirements of the Brazilian Navy and offers the added value of industrial cooperation and transfer of technology."

The 9LV system is noted for its flexibility and easy integration of third-party modules.

Saab do Brasil head Marianna Silva said: “Saab is looking forward to the cooperation with Damen and the local partners for the CCT programme.

“We believe our proposal meets the requirements of the Brazilian Navy and offers the added value of industrial cooperation and transfer of technology that are intrinsic to Saab’s way of doing business.”

Should the proposal be accepted, Damen has agreed to provide the Brazilian Navy with a Sigma 10514 ship, which is an off-the-shelf vessel that can be customised and adapted according to the clients’ own requirements.

Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding Naval Sales director Richard Keulen said: “We at Damen appreciate the increasingly important task of the Brazilian Navy to safeguard the maritime domain against its existent and future threats and challenges.

“We are looking forward to participate in a constructive way in this process.

“We also are confident that our product will integrate perfectly with those of Saab.”

The Brazilian Navy’s CCT project comprises a large technology transfer programme, along with several collaborations with local companies that are expected to benefit the Brazilian defence industry.
