The Kenya Navy ship KNS Shujaa has rejoined the fleet at Mkunguni after successfully completing its one-and-a-half-year midlife refit programme.

The upgrade programme was carried out in the Netherlands by Dutch shipbuilding company Damen Shipyards, reported Defenseworld.net.

“As part of training, the six weeks’ voyage, accomplished flag-showing diplomacy in Portugal, Malta, Egypt, and Djibouti, which is a key component of our training for young officers and sailors.”

KNS Shujaa is commanded by lieutenant colonel Timothy Lekolool and is expected to strengthen the Kenyan Navy’s Mkunguni fleet, while providing assistance across a wide range of activities.

The vessel has been based in the Netherlands for the refit project since 6 November 2016.
