The Kenya Navy ship KNS Shujaa has rejoined the fleet at Mkunguni after successfully completing its one-and-a-half-year midlife refit programme.
The upgrade programme was carried out in the Netherlands by Dutch shipbuilding company Damen Shipyards, reported Defenseworld.net.
Kenya Navy commander major general Levi Franklin Mghalu said: “The ceremony we are having today is for the celebrations of the KNS Shujaa crew, who have completed a successful training voyage from the Netherlands to Mombasa.
“This follows the completion of a one-and-half-month midlife refit programme in the Netherlands.
“I further wish to congratulate the ship’s crew and the junior officers under training on their accomplishment of the sea cruise exercise.
“As part of training, the six weeks’ voyage, accomplished flag-showing diplomacy in Portugal, Malta, Egypt, and Djibouti, which is a key component of our training for young officers and sailors.”

By GlobalDataKNS Shujaa is commanded by lieutenant colonel Timothy Lekolool and is expected to strengthen the Kenyan Navy’s Mkunguni fleet, while providing assistance across a wide range of activities.
The vessel has been based in the Netherlands for the refit project since 6 November 2016.
