The US Department of the Navy has awarded an additional contract extension with a limit of $485m to the government services provider Perspecta under the next-generation enterprise networks (NGEN) programme.
The latest eight-month extension would help provide the navy and US Marine Corps (USMC) with uninterrupted information technology (IT) and network security services through May 2020.
Under the NGEN contract, the company is responsible for operating the US Navy Marine Corps intranet (NMCI), which has approximately 700,000 users worldwide.
Perspecta president and chief executive officer Mac Curtis said: “Perspecta is fully prepared to continue our work, combining fresh and innovative concepts with practical solutions to meet the evolving needs of sailors and marines who rely on the network to support their critical missions.
“We are honoured to serve the Department of the Navy, keeping the network operational and safe while setting the stage for IT modernisation as they prepare for the transition to the follow-on contract.”
The current contract extension is part of the NGEN programme that was started by the US Navy in 2000.
