The UK Royal Navy and the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) are looking to launch a new competition to seek proposals for autonomous systems.
Known as the NavyX Maritime Autonomous Systems (MAS), the completion will be launched in partnership with the Royal Navy’s autonomy innovation accelerator NavyX.
There is no information on the launch date of NavyX MAS and the funding amount available for the programme.
Through the competition, the navy is keen to attract ideas for mature applications of autonomous systems for rapid impact.
The MAS capability innovations are intended to enhance the capabilities of the navy in future maritime operations.
Companies interested in the competition should propose innovations that increase operational efficiency.

Solutions that will be targeted under the competition could include those capable of autonomously moving loads from ship to ship, ship to shore, and shore to ship.
DASA said in a statement: “We will be specifically looking for mature technologies that the Royal Navy can rapidly develop and prove in an operational environment, putting the solutions into the hands of sailors more quickly.”
The proposals will be supported by NavyX in the form of providing end-user testing and facilities to conduct trials.
NavyX is responsible for developing, testing and trialling advanced equipment to drive transformational change in autonomy across all maritime environments.
