French company Naval Group has launched a research and development (R&D) centre of excellence in Singapore to develop world-class expertise for strategic naval defence research topics.
In June this year, the company organised Start We Up, an innovation marathon for local start-ups, SMEs and Naval Group experts to foster open innovation.
Naval Group develops disruptive technologies by investing 10% of its revenues in R&D efforts.
With this initiative, the company expects to boost Singapore’s research capability and turn the city-state into a centre of expertise for the maritime defence sector. The move will see Asia’s researchers and engineers study the latest innovative trends relevant to the sector.
The international collaborative platform intends to boost innovation in domains such as Big Data and artificial intelligence, create innovative technologies for the regional market, and support R&D efforts led by Singapore and France.
The company said that the opening of the centre of excellence strengthens the company’s cooperation with the Singaporean industry and academia to deliver best technologies through co-development processes aimed at improving the city-state’s sovereignty at sea.
