The US Navy has announced that a sailor on board the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Boxer (LHD 4) has tested presumptive positive for coronavirus (Covid-19).
The individual is undergoing quarantine at home in line with guidelines issued by the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
The test result has been sent to the CDC for confirmation and is considered presumptive positive.
The people who have been in close contact with the infected sailor are currently in self-isolation at their homes and are not reported to be on the ship.

By GlobalDataIn a statement, the US Navy said: “US Navy ships conduct routine, daily cleanliness procedures geared toward health, wellness and the prevention of communicable disease spread.
“USS Boxer is taking appropriate preventative measures and conducting a thorough cleaning in accordance with specific guidance from the CDC and Navy-Marine Corps Public Health Center.”
A thorough contact investigation is being conducted by military health professionals to find out possible exposure in case of close contact between the sailor and other personnel.
Additional precautionary measures are expected to be undertaken based on the investigation results.
The Covid-19 pandemic has so far killed over 6,500 and infected more than 169,000 people around the world.
The US has reported 3,774 confirmed cases with 69 deaths so far.
Last week, US Navy officials announced that a naval reservist in Maine tested presumptive positive.
The Norwegian Armed Forces cancelled the ongoing winter exercise, Cold Response 2020, in northern Norway due to the concerns regarding Covid-19.
Earlier this month, the Indian Navy postponed the Milan 2020 exercise in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
