The US Navy’s Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Antietam has launched a Tomahawk land attack cruise-missile (TLAM).
The missile strike scenario was carried out during Valliant Shield 2020 and targeted the uninhabited 200-acre Farallon de Medinilla range off the coast of Guam.
The Valiant Shield biennial field training exercise focuses on the joint training of the US forces at sea, air and land.
USS Antietam commanding officer captain Russell Caldwell said: “The US military is committed to preserving security, maintaining regional stability, and remaining postured to respond to a wide variety of contingencies.
“The TLAM exercise, as part of the overall Valiant Shield 20 scenario, provides the entire Ronald Regan Strike Group the opportunity to exercise critical war fighting skills that helps the warfighter refine their tactical abilities to respond to a full range of military response options that are available in defence of our shared interests in the Asia Pacific region.”
This eighth iteration of the exercise showcased the capability of the vessel to track, target, and engage threats.
