Babcock International has been awarded a four-year contract to support the Brazilian Navy’s (Marinha do Brasil) flagship multipurpose aircraft carrier, NAM Atlântico (A140).
The vessel was originally owned by the UK Royal Navy (RN). It was known as HMS Ocean.
Under the contract, Babcock will provide through life support including the maintenance planning, technical advice, and knowledge transfer for the vessel.
The contract involves delivery of several technical training packages for the Brazilian Navy’s personnel deployed aboard and at the Navy’s base.
Besides, Babcock will also help the Brazilian Navy in developing a spares management system and installing and delivering related upgrades for the ship.
Works related to the contract will be carried out by an in-country team that will be deployed at the Brazilian Navy’s naval base, Arsenal De Marinha Do Rio De Janeiro (AMRJ), at the Guanabara Bay in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
