Navies of Denmark and the UK have signed an agreement to support the UK Royal Navy’s (RN) next-generation Inspiration-class Type 31 frigates.
The agreement was signed between Royal Danish Navy (RDN) fleet admiral rear admiral Torben Mikkelsen, and RN fleet commander vice admiral Andrew Burns.
It was signed during the Chiefs of European Navies Seminar (CHENS), an annual gathering of European naval leaders which was hosted in Romania this year.
Admiral Burns said: “This agreement will serve to further bilateral cooperation between our two Navies, advance our shared interests, and build upon the expertise and capability of our respective shipbuilding industries.”
As part of the agreement, the two navies will collaborate to bring the Inspiration-class frigates into the service by increasing construction, training and operational opportunities.
The agreement will assist shipbuilding industries of both the nations to deliver the frigates on time with value for money.

By GlobalDataThe Type 31 frigate’s design is based on the RDN’s Iver Huitfeldt-class vessel. It will allow both the nations to jointly develop operational tasks involving the two vessels.
Apart from the mutual benefit of sailors and members of the two vessels, the agreement will also enhance strategic relationship between the two navies.
Mikkelsen said: “The agreement we’ve signed is a landmark and a continuation of that close relationship, and at the end of the day, the cooperation and the alike capacities in the frigates will strengthen both our navies’ ability to operate.”
Recently, Babcock International commenced the construction work of the RN’s first Type 31 frigate, HMS Venturer, at company’s Rosyth dockyard in Scotland.
The frigate is expected to be in the water by the end of 2023.
