Maritime intelligence firm Global Spatial Technology Solutions (GSTS) has received a contract to provide maritime situational awareness platform for the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN).
The contract has been awarded by the Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada.
The contract is being funded under the ISED’s Innovative Solutions Canada programme.
Under the contract, the company will provide its artificial intelligence (AI)-based maritime information management platform OCIANA to the RCN.
Additionally, the contract allows the RCN to use and evaluate the advanced capabilities of the platform in an operational environment.
GSTS CEO Richard Kolacz said: “This contract demonstrates the flexibility of the OCIANA platform to support a wide range of security solutions for the maritime sector in any region on the globe.

GSTS’ OCIANA is an AI-based platform that enhances maritime situational awareness by conducting global vessel risk analysis to provide complete operational picture of the naval domain.
Additionally, the platform is capable of rapidly identifying the naval risks, allowing operators to allocate resources, coordinate and take action effectively.
Kolacz added: “OCIANA can be configured to support applications for defence, civil and commercial customers.
“Over the next several months we anticipate increasing our customer base in all three sectors, as we commence full commercialisation of OCIANA’s capabilities.”
GSTS, a Canada-based company, provides AI-based solutions for the maritime domain.
According to the company, the maritime solutions are designed to support logistic resilience on a global scale by using applications based on new data sets and analytics.
