Sembcorp Marine has secured a $150m (SGD200m) engineering, construction and procurement (ECP) contract from the Brazilian Ministry of Defence’s state-owned company Emgepron.
Sembcorp received this contract through its wholly owned subsidiaries, Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA) and Sembcorp Marine Specialised Shipbuilding (SMSS), and the establishment of Special Purpose Entity Polar 1 Construção Naval SPE.
Under the new ECP contract, the company will build a support vessel, called NApAnt, for the Brazilian Navy to enable scientific research deployment in the Antarctic.
The construction of the vessel will start this year, with delivery expected in the third quarter of 2025.
Once constructed, NApAnt will replace the ageing ocean support vessel (NApOc) Ary Rongel (H-44).
The vessel is anticipated to add operative aspects to the Brazilian Antarctic programme.
