The global aerospace, defence & security industry noticed a 0.2% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2022 over the previous month, led by The Boeing’s 13% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The aerospace, defence & security industry’s overall hiring activity declined 1.06% when compared with July 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 17.66% share of the global aerospace, defence & security industry’s hiring activity in August 2022, up 0.51% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2022 were 8.21% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 20.31% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 44% emerged as the top IT occupation in the aerospace, defence & security hiring activity in August 2022, a 4.26% growth over the previous month. Computer and Information Research Scientists came in second with a share of 22.11% in August 2022, up 8.42% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 20.95% share in August 2022, a growth of 4.17% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 5.73% share in August 2022 and a rise of 9.96% over July 2022.
Top five aerospace, defence & security companies by recruitment activity in August 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 1.96% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global aerospace, defence & security industry during August 2022 over July 2022.
The Boeing posted 651 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a rise of 1.56% over the previous month, followed by Northrop Grumman with 634 jobs and a 7.46% growth. Raytheon Technologies with 528 IT jobs and General Dynamics with 514 jobs, recorded a 13.01% decline and a 7.76% rise, respectively, while Huntington Ingalls Industries recorded a 15.14% drop with 370 job postings during August 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in aerospace, defence & security industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global aerospace, defence & security IT hiring activity in August 2022 with an 82.26% share, which marked an 11.2% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 9.33%, registering a 21.38% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 7.65% share and a 0.79% rise over July 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.5% and a month-on-month rise of 25%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.26%, registering a 7.14% decrease over the previous month.
