Saab Australia has signed the final stage of enterprise partnering agreement (EPA) to provide combat management system (CMS) for the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) Surface Fleet.
The initial EPA between Saab and Australian Department of Defence (DoD) was signed in February 2020.
As part of the work, Saab will install the Australian CMS (AusCMS) onto the RAN’s six different classes of surface warship fleet.
Work will also include development of an Australian interface for the Hunter-class and Hobart-class vessels.
Saab Australia managing director Andy Keough said: “The EPA signing demonstrates our ongoing commitment to RAN and to creation of sovereign capability, building on the great work we have already completed for the Commonwealth.
“It serves as recognition of strong track record Saab has demonstrated in reliably delivering excellence in CMS capability to the Navy for more than three decades.

By GlobalData“Importantly, it ensures we can continue to evolve Navy’s capability, create local jobs, and deliver an AusCMS that meets needs of RAN in an evolving geo-political landscape.”
Keough added: “Three decades after a group of Swedish engineers transferred expert command-and-control capability to Australia, Saab enjoys a long and proud history of developing, delivering and evolving CMS capability for exacting needs of RAN, and the protection of Australia.”
Saab’s CMS is a computer software system used for connecting the weapons, sensors, data systems and other equipment of a warship for providing an integrated operating system to the operator.
Under the previous EPA agreement, the company provided a tactical interface based on the next-generation CMS for the Hunter-class vessels, Arafura-class offshore patrol vessels (OPV) and the Supply-class auxiliary oiler replenishment ships.
