The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a potential $895m foreign military sale (FMS) of Tomahawk land attack missiles to Australia.
The proposed sale has already been approved by the US State Department.
The FMS deal requires the US to deliver up to 200 Tomahawk RGM-109E Block V all-up-rounds (AURs), 20 RGM-109E Block IV AURs along with the necessary equipment and support.
Associated support requested by the Australian government for the country’s Tomahawk Weapon System (TWS) covers all three major segments, including AURs, Tactical Tomahawk Weapon Control System and Theatre Mission Planning Centre.
In specific, the support will be provided in terms of procurement, spares, training, unscheduled missile maintenance, communication equipment, software, hardware as well as related logistical, programme and in-service support.
The US will also extend the required engineering and technical expertise for the maintenance of the TWS capability in Australia.

By GlobalDataRaytheon Missiles and Defense has been chosen as the principal US contractor for this FMS.
During the implementation of this FMS case, both US Government and contractor representatives will be required to temporarily visit Australia for multiple times to facilitate weapon systems’ delivery and integration and for providing inventory control, management and equipment familiarisation support.
The finalisation of this deal is further expected to enhance maritime capabilities of the Australian forces to interoperate with the US Navy and other allied forces.
Deployment of TWS will allow Australia to support readiness initiatives worldwide. It will also serve as a deterrent against a variety of regional threats.
In a statement, DSCA said: “Australia is one of our most important allies in the Western Pacific.
“The strategic location of this political and economic power contributes significantly to ensuring peace and economic stability in the region.”
