Computer and Mathematical Occupations drive artificial intelligence-related hiring activity

Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 29%, emerged as the top artificial intelligence-related job roles within the aerospace, defence and security industry in Q2 2024, with new job postings rising by 42% quarter-on-quarter. Architecture and Engineering Occupations came in second with a share of 12% in Q2 2024, with new job postings rising by 35% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent artificial intelligence roles include Management Occupations with a 9% share in Q2 2024, Business and Financial Operations Occupations with a 6% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in aerospace, defence and security industry accounted for 64% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q2 2024 were General Dynamics, Huntington Ingalls Industries, Boeing, CAE, and EDGE Group. Together they accounted for a combined share of 64% of all artificial intelligence-related new jobs in the aerospace, defence and security industry.

General Dynamics posted 3,420 artificial intelligence-related new jobs in Q2 2024, Huntington Ingalls Industries 975 jobs, Boeing 951 jobs, CAE 560 jobs, and EDGE Group 343 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 78.72% share of total new job postings, Q2 2024

The largest share of artificial intelligence-related new job postings in the aerospace, defence and security industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 78.72% followed by Canada (4.33%) and India (4.23%). The share represented by the US was five percentage points higher than the 73.77% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
