German manufacturer Raytheon Anschütz has introduced its advanced naval navigation and bridge system, Synapsis Naval, which features a user-centred design.

Synapsis Naval is a software-defined system that has been developed using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technology.

It integrates a wide range of military system capabilities such as radar video merging and other tactical radar features, integrated situational awareness, ship self-defence capabilities, military surveillance radars and cyber security solutions.

Raytheon Anschütz Business Development director Andreas Weidner said: “Our software architecture delivers increased system interoperability and advanced operational capabilities, while mitigating integration risk for customers.

“We have a legacy of bridge system integration experience, across bridge navigation systems and third-party equipment such as specialised radars or the warship electronic chart display and information system (WECDIS), which is based on more than 111 years of research, development and execution.”

Raytheon Anschütz’s solution was built on open system architecture and helps simplify maintenance and logistics, in addition to supporting upgrades and future capability requirements.

Synapsis Naval’s advanced sensor degradation and data distribution management allows for the scalability of system functions and integration with other onboard systems such as automation or combat management.

This includes the incorporation of customer-specific equipment (GFE) and integration with customer-provided hardware or network infrastructure.

Raytheon Anschütz developed the solution for global naval programmes and has delivered more than 1,200 integrated navigation and bridge systems to date.
