The US Navy has awarded a contract to Aerojet Rocketdyne Inc to develop a power and energy management system for underwater unmanned vehicles (UUVs), as part of its Forward-Deployed Energy and Communications Outpost (FDECO) programme.
The agreement requires Aerojet Rocketdyne to demonstrate the power management system’s capability to allow the US Navy to recharge fielded UUVs remotely at sea.
QinetiQ North America has secured a $41m contract from General Atomics to supply advanced arresting gear (AAG) and electromagnetic aircraft launch systems (EMALS).
The EMALS and AAG to be supplied under the deal will be fitted in the US Navy’s John F. Kennedy (CVN 79), which is the second aircraft carrier of the Gerald R. Ford class.
The Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency has placed an order with Kongsberg Maritime for HUGIN autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) systems.
Kongsberg Maritime will supply a total of four HUGIN AUV systems as part of the commitment, which will be used by the Royal Norwegian Navy to detect, classify and identify underwater mines at depths of up to 3,000m.

The arrangement will see Booz Allen Hamilton provide professional support services for 21 DOD programmes led by the US Navy’s Battlespace Awareness and Information Operations Programme Office (PMW 120).
The company will also provide end-to-end acquisition lifecycle support to PMW 120 under the contract.
