The Peruvian Navy has selected Kongsberg Maritime to deliver an integrated subsea technology systems package, including two HUGIN autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV), for its new hydrographic and oceanographic research vessel.
The 97m-long vessel, BAP Carrasco, is being constructed at Construcciones Navales P Freire shipyard in Spain, and was launched on 7 May this year.
The equipment package includes a Kongsberg EM122, a deepwater multibeam echo sounder, Kongsberg EA600 12, 38 and a 200kHz single beam echo sounder.
Additional equipment includes a SBP 120 3º sub-bottom profiler, and Simrad EK80 18, 38, 70, 120 and 200kHz scientific single beam multi-frequency echo sounders.
For enhanced medium water operations, the company will provide two Kongsberg HUGIN AUVs with hydrographic, geology and geophysics configurations to facilitate a high-resolution survey depth rated to 3,000m and a high-precision acoustic positioning (HiPAP) system.
Featuring Polar capability and classified with a PC7 notation, the new vessel will be able to conduct research in Peruvian waters, thereby fulfilling Peru’s commitment under the Antarctic Treaty.
