Sikorsky wins $717m contract to support CH-53E and MH-53E helicopters
Lockheed Martin company Sikorsky secured a $717m contract to support and sustain the CH-53E Super Stallion and MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopters in service with the US Marine Corps (USMC) and the US Navy respectively.
Under the performance-based logistics contract, Sikorsky will be responsible for providing the navy and USMC with supply and logistics support for the entire fleets of the two H-53E variants.
H-53E has been designed as a heavy-lift aircraft that supports the two US services in a wide range of missions, both at domestically and internationally.
Saab and Lockheed chosen for RAN’s Hunter-class programme
Saab Australia and Lockheed Martin Australia were selected as the preferred combat system integration partners for the country’s A$35bn ($25.01bn) Hunter-class future frigate programme.
The two companies have been chosen by BAE Systems Australia, which is the preferred supplier of the nine anti-submarine Type 26 global combat ships for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).
The advanced work arrangement (AWA) for the project was signed between the company and Australian Government last month.

The UK Government signed a multi-million-pound contract for 17 additional F-35B Lightning II combat jets.
The new order will double the UK current F-35 stealth jet fleet to 35 by the end of 2022.
In total, the country has committed to acquire 138 F-35 joint strike fighters (JSFs) over the programme’s lifetime.
SAIC wins $597m deal to deliver C5ISR support for US Navy
The US Navy awarded a $597m contract to Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) in support of the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SSC) Atlantic.
Under the deal, the company will be responsible for production and delivery of integrated command, control, communications, computers, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C5ISR) systems, networks, and support equipment.
The single-award indefinite-delivery / indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract has a total period of performance of five years.
HMS Queen Elizabeth concludes fast jet trials with F-35s
The British Royal Navy’s latest aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth completed a series of intensive F-35 fast jet trials over two months in the US.
After completing its Westlant 18 deployment in the US, the 65,000t navy vessel is currently returning to its home port in Portsmouth, UK.
The fast jet trials were carried out to help write the ‘operator’s manual’ that would enable future F-35 pilots to fly jets from the carrier’s deck on frontline operations.
Perspecta wins $485m contract extension for US Navy’s NGEN programme
The US Department of the Navy awarded an additional contract extension with a limit of $485m to the government services provider Perspecta under the next-generation enterprise networks (NGEN) programme.
The latest eight-month extension would help provide the navy and US Marine Corps (USMC) with uninterrupted information technology (IT) and network security services through May 2020.
Under the NGEN contract, the company is responsible for operating the US Navy Marine Corps intranet (NMCI), which has approximately 700,000 users worldwide.
Japan requests $561m sale of Standard Missile-3 weapons from US
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of a possible foreign military sale (FMS) of Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) weapon systems to Japan for an estimated $561m.
Under the proposed deal, the Government of Japan has requested eight SM-3 Block IB missiles and 13 SM-3 Block IIA missiles.
Approved by the US State Department, the sale package also includes delivery of the Mk21 and Mk29 missile canisters for the SM-3 1B and 2A weapon systems.
GRSE to build four survey vessels for Indian Navy for $329.52m
Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) was selected as the successful bidder for development and delivery of new Survey Vessels for the Indian Navy.
With a total order value of Rs24.35bn ($329.52m), the contract for design, construction and supply of a fleet of four large Survey Vessels has been awarded by the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD).
The first vessel is slated to be delivered to the Indian Navy within three years, while the remaining three will be delivered within an interval of six months for each ship.
GD BIW starts construction on US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class DDG 127
General Dynamics (GD) started construction on the US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, the future USS Patrick Gallagher (DDG 127), at Bath Iron Works (BIW) shipyard in Maine.
The start of construction was marked by the initial cut to the first plate of steel for the vessel by US Senator Susan Collins.
DDG 127 has been named to honour the late US Marine Corps (USMC) Vietnam veteran and Navy Cross recipient lance corporal Patrick Gallagher.
DLA to buy InstantEye Mk-3 GEN5-D1 sUASs for USMC
US-based Physical Sciences’ subsidiary InstantEye Robotics secured a contract to deliver its latest Mk-3 GEN5-D1 small unmanned aerial systems (sUASs) to the US Marine Corps (USMC).
The contract was awarded by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) in support of PMA-263, the US Navy and Marine Corps small tactical unmanned aircraft systems Program Office.
Under the agreement, InstantEye Robotics will be responsible for fielding 32 units of the company’s Mk-3 GEN5-D1 drone systems.
