Unveiling the Royal Marines Commando Uniform
The new uniform isn’t just a homage to the past, it also features modern fabrics that allow it to dry in half the time of the current uniform and uses Crye Precision’s MultiCam camouflage pattern.
The new uniform is part of ongoing modernisation of the Royal Marines into a ‘Future Commando Force’ which will revamp the way the elite force operates. The Royal Marines said the new uniform is ‘fit for a new era of warfare’ while ‘in-keeping with the maritime traditions of the corps’.
The uniform, manufactured by US-based Crye Precision, is lighter, faster-drying and more breathable than the existing kit and has a higher tear strength.
As part of the new uniform, for the first time, Royal Marines Commandos will wear the White Ensign of the Royal Navy as well as a new Royal Marines Commando Flash inspired by the Marines’ WWII-era Insignia.
Commenting on the new uniform, Minister for the Armed Forces James Heappey said: “The Royal Marines require a uniform that they can rely on in the most hostile of environments on earth. This robust, breathable and lightweight kit will ensure our commandos remain fighting fit and able to deal with the full range of threats we rely on them to face.

A poignant link to their history as the commando force embarks on a modernisation programme that will keep them in their place as the world’s best amphibious force.”
