Canada’s aerospace, defence & security industry registered a 5.6% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 0.84% in October 2022 when compared with September 2022.

Out of the aerospace, defence & security industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed an 11.61% share in October 2022, recording an increase of 0.03% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s aerospace, defence & security industry’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 96.3% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s aerospace, defence & security industry in October 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 53.7% in October 2022, registering a 45.28% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 20.37% share, an increase of 83.33% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Research Scientists held a share of 9.26%, registering a 16.67% decline from September 2022.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 7.41%, down 33.33% over the previous month.

Top five aerospace, defence & security companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 36.21% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s aerospace, defence & security industry during October 2022 over September 2022.

Lockheed Martin posted 9 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a rise of 350% over the previous month, followed by Bombardier with 8 jobs and a 20% drop. CAE with 7 IT jobs and Boeing with 7 jobs, recorded a 53.33% decline and a 73.08% decrease, respectively, while Raytheon Technologies recorded an increase of 20% with 6 job postings during October 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 51.85%, down by 26.32% from September 2022. Mid Level positions with a 25.93% share, registered a decline of 33.33% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 22.22% share, down 47.83% over September 2022.
