
The global aerospace, defence & security industry noticed a 2.2% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2022 over the previous month, led by Raytheon Technologies 12.24% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The aerospace, defence & security industry’s overall hiring activity increased 2.38% when compared with August 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 16.92% share of the global aerospace, defence & security industry’s hiring activity in September 2022, down 0.56% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2022 were 4.23% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 10.5% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive aerospace, defence & security IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 45.03% emerged as the top IT occupation in the aerospace, defence & security hiring activity in September 2022, a 1.9% growth over the previous month. Computer and Information Research Scientists came in second with a share of 22.9% in September 2022, down 1.08% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 19.41% share in September 2022, a decline of 8.98% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 5.62% share in September 2022 and a drop of 4.56% over August 2022.
Top five aerospace, defence & security companies by recruitment activity in September 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 1.52% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global aerospace, defence & security industry during September 2022 over August 2022.
Raytheon Technologies posted 684 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a rise of 22.8% over the previous month, followed by Northrop Grumman with 635 jobs and a 1.7% decline. The Boeing with 609 IT jobs and General Dynamics with 574 jobs, recorded a 13.62% decline and a 10.38% rise, respectively, while Huntington Ingalls Industries recorded a 7.89% drop with 362 job postings during September 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in aerospace, defence & security industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global aerospace, defence & security IT hiring activity in September 2022 with a 78.5% share, which marked a 7.23% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 13.94%, registering a 56.74% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 7.05% share and a 4.6% drop over August 2022.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.34% and a month-on-month drop of 24%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.18%, registering a 28.57% decrease over the previous month.
