Air Industries Group’s Long Island-based subsidiary has secured a contract to deliver complete landing gear for the US Navy’s E-2D Advanced Hawkeye.

The $12.4m contract will see Air Industries Machining Corp deliver Main and Nose landing gear and ancillary components for the airborne early warning aircraft.

Air Industries CEO Lou Melluzzo said: “This contract win is significant. The E-2D and earlier variants of the aircraft have been an important platform at Air Industries for decades.

“The evolution of our E-2D product mirrors the development of our business over the years. We began producing individual parts for the landing gear as a Tier 2 supplier.”

The company will commence the deliveries under the contract from next year. It is required to complete deliveries in 2024.

The US Navy’s E-2D advances the warfighters battlespace awareness by delivering critical, actionable data to joint forces and first responders.

Equipped with an advanced airborne radar, the aircraft plays a key role in how naval performs combat command and control.

The Northrop Grumman-built E-2 aircraft is operated by international militaries, including Japan.

Last year, France signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance to procure E-2D Advanced Hawkeye.

Melluzzo added: “Today, we manufacture complete, ready-to-install, landing gear, as a Tier 1 supplier to the original equipment manufacturer. The E-2D Aircraft is one of five major aircraft platforms we support, and it represented approximately 15% of our total sales in 2021.”

In April last year, the US Navy concluded the Fleet Mission Testing of the first two E-2D Advanced Hawkeye Distributed Readiness Trainers (D-DRT).
