Air Industries Group has been contracted to provide main landing gear assemblies for the US Navy’s E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft.  

This $2.6m deal follows an $11m award made in December 2024, for similar components.

Unlike the previous award for new aircraft production, the latest contract focuses on the aftermarket maintenance and overhaul of existing service aircraft.  

The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, measuring 57 feet and 8.75 inches, represents the latest version of the E-2 platform, featuring “advanced” radar systems and improved aircraft systems for enhanced supportability and readiness.  

The platform facilitates threat detection, aircraft coordination, and airspace management around Aircraft Carrier Battle Groups.  

The Hawkeye’s upgraded capabilities allow it to support a range of missions, from airborne strikes to rescue operations, by managing a communications network.

The aircraft’s design includes a glass cockpit and an additional tactical display, enhancing the five-person crew’s ability to manage various tasks simultaneously.  

Air Industries Group CEO Lou Melluzzo said: “The E-2D aircraft continues to be a cornerstone for Air Industries. Production of new E-2D aircraft continues, and there are numerous aircraft in the US Navy fleet. The aircraft is expected to remain in service into the 2040’s.  

“We have supported this programme for decades, and we look forward to supporting it for many years to come. This new award supports our aftermarket initiative for this and other programmes, and it is consistent with our plan to broaden our support of international customers. 

“The business development initiatives we began in 2023 are bearing fruit. For all of calendar 2024 our bookings of new business have been strongly more than our billings. In December 2024 alone, we have announced three new contracts worth over $45m. Bookings lead to backlog, backlog leads to shipping and revenue. We are increasingly confident about our future.” 

In 2024, Lockheed Martin delivered the 75th APY-9 radar for the E-2D under a contract with Northrop Grumman.
