BAE Systems has completed the planned maintenance period of the British Royal Navy’s new River-class offshore patrol vessel (OPV) HMS Medway.
The repairs and maintenance were delivered by the company along with Royal Navy Ship Staff in Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida from December last year to January this year.
The company is under the contractor logistics support (CLS) contract to provide the whole ship availability management service to all the eight OPVs of the Royal Navy.
BAE Systems HMS Medway ship manager Darren Coukham said: “I am hugely proud of our teams for completing this work on time.
“I believe our customers recognise that BAE Systems will go above and beyond, when required, to meet their needs, and has the expertise to re-plan such projects quickly and effectively.”
With the completion of the maintenance works, HMS Medway will now continue to operate in the ‘demanding conditions of the Caribbean Sea’ as part of its role in the Atlantic Patrol Tasking North group.

By GlobalDataIn January last year, HMS Medway crew sailed on their first operational mission, Atlantic Patrol Tasking (North).
The Atlantic Patrol Tasking (North) mission is focused on protecting the interests of the UK and the British Overseas Territories in the Caribbean.
Named after the River Medway in Kent, the 90m-long, BAE Systems-built vessel completed its first sea trials in the Firth of Clyde in December 2018.
HMS Medway is the second of five 2,000t River-class 2.0 vessels designed to perform patrol duties in home waters and beyond.
The remaining vessels are HMS Forth, HMS Tamar, HMS Trent and HMS Spey.
