The US Navy has awarded a contract to CAE under a foreign military sale (FMS) programme, which will see the delivery of a comprehensive S-70B Seahawk helicopter training system to the Brazilian Navy.
CAE will be responsible for the design and manufacturing of two S-70B training devices under the agreement, as well as their subsequent delivery to the São Pedro da Aldeia Naval Air Base near Rio de Janeiro.
The devices include a fixed-base S-70B operational flight trainer (OFT) for use during pilot training and an S-70B weapons tactics trainer (WTT), which is intended to be deployed to train rear-crew sensor operators and airborne tactics officers.
The training devices can either operate independently or be linked to create an S-70B Seahawk tactical operational flight trainer (TOFT) that delivers a total aircrew mission training system for navy personnel.
CAE USA president and general manager Ray Duquette said: “Over the past 15 years, CAE has developed a number of Seahawk helicopter training systems for the US Navy, as well as other global militaries, and we are pleased the US Navy selected us to provide the Brazilian Navy with a world-class S-70B Seahawk helicopter training system.
“High-fidelity synthetic training is ideal for cost-effectively training and preparing aircrews for mission success, and this comprehensive S-70B training solution will help the Brazilian Navy prepare their aircrews to safely accomplish a range of missions.”

By GlobalDataThe S-70B OFT will support the training of the Brazilian Navy S-70B pilots and co-pilots in normal and emergency procedures, in addition to a range of mission scenarios.
The flight simulator will be equipped with the CAE Medallion-6000 image generator and is set to feature Open Geospatial Consortium Common Database (OGC CDB) architecture, which is an international standard for the creation of synthetic environment databases.
Additionally, the S-70B WTT is a replica of the back-end of the S-70B helicopter and will support the training of sensor operators and airborne tactics officers.
The S-70B OFT and S-70B WTT can be networked to create the S-70B TOFT system, which provides the pilot, co-pilot and rear crew members with a total aircrew mission training system, allowing them to interact and interoperate in a similar manner to a real-life mission.
