CCC has secured a contract worth $13.3m (C$19m) with the US Department of Defense (DoD) to supply the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division with QinetiQ’s Vindicator Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) – target and associated services.
The five-year contract, which runs until late 2029 with an option for a six-month extension, marks the sixth consecutive framework agreement awarded to QinetiQ’s Medicine Hat Facility for Vindicator II Support Services.
The Vindicator is a cost-effective, recoverable, and remotely piloted training target that is built to endure challenging conditions and “rigorous” training scenarios.
It is designed to replicate threats such as high diver, UAV, low-slow-flyer, and helicopter threats.
This enhances military readiness by allowing defence operations to effectively test and evaluate air-defence systems.
CCC Contract Management and Operations VP Diane Montambault said: “QinetiQ’s Vindicator is a world-class UAV solution that exemplifies Canadian engineering at its best.”

By GlobalDataQinetiQ Customer Account manager Ryan Peterson added: “QinetiQ is proud to offer the Vindicator to the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, to help enhance the preparedness and response capabilities of the US Navy.”
Under the new contract, Canadian personnel will deploy to provide services tailored to the US Navy’s operational requirements, using equipment similar to Banshee operations but modified for the Navy’s needs.
QinetiQ, a UK-based defence and security solutions provider, operates a Canadian facility that focuses on advanced technologies such as autonomous systems, robotics, and cybersecurity.
NAWCWD, a central entity of the US Navy, is responsible for the lifecycle support of naval aviation weapons systems, offering advanced testing, evaluation, and research facilities.
CCC, acting as the contracting authority for US DoD purchases from Canada, facilitates Canadian companies such as QinetiQ in supplying the US DoD with Canadian-made solutions through its US DoD Prime Contractor service.
This announcement follows a previous contract where QinetiQ’s US division was chosen to provide hardware and software for the USS Doris Miller, the future US Navy Gerald R Ford-class aircraft carrier.
