Comtech Telecommunications has announced that its Florida-based subsidiary Comtech Systems has received a ten-year, $211m indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract from Cubic Mission Solutions, a business division of Cubic Corporation.

The contract was signed for the supply of next-generation troposcatter equipment in support of the US Marine Corps (USMC).

Delivery of the first system is expected this year.

The troposcatter system is a high capacity, low-latency data links. It is useful for communications over long distances, without any reliance on satellites or multiple line-of-sight repeaters.

The system increases bandwidth and decreases size, weight and power by 90% compared to the legacy systems for the USMC.

Comtech Telecommunications president and CEO Fred Kornberg said: “We are extremely excited to be able to provide our leading next-generation troposcatter solution to Cubic, in support of the US Marine Corps.

“As the world’s leader in digital troposcatter systems, our next-generation technology will enable the warfighter to communicate more reliably and with greater capability on the battlefield than ever before.”

Comtech has also awarded a $13.4m order for the supply of next-generation terminals to Cubic. Delivery of the first batch of terminals will help USMC in testing and evaluation of the systems.

In November 2019, USMC had awarded a contract worth $325m to Cubic for the production and delivery of 172 next-generation troposcatter system. Cubic and Comtech are in working partnership for the delivery of the equipment system.
