General Dynamics Electric Boat has secured a $480.6m contract modification for the development of the Columbia-class ballistic-missile submarine.
The company will provide funding for advance procurement, advance construction and long lead time material for the first of 12 Columbia-class submarines.
Construction of the lead sea-based strategic deterrent is expected to start at the end of 2020, with the lead vessel expected to be delivered in 2027.
The award is part of a $6.1bn contract awarded by the US Navy in September 2017.
The Boeing Company has been awarded a $167.79m contract to provide depot-level reparables for the US Navy’s F/A-18 Hornet multirole combat jet.
Awarded by the US Defense Logistics Agency Aviation, the contract includes a five-year base period with a five-year extension option.

It is part of a previous contract awarded by the US Naval Air Systems Command.
Work will be carried in the US, Australia and Italy until September 2022.
Huntington Ingalls Inc has been awarded a $104.26m contract to provide engineering and technical services for the US Navy’s nuclear submarines until September 2019.
Awarded by the US Naval Sea Systems Command, the contract also includes design, research and development, configuration, database management, modernisation and industrial support, as well as integrated logistics support.
The US Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) has awarded multiple contracts totalling $1.808bn in support of the US Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division’s hull, mechanical and electrical modernisation programmes.
Engineering and technical services will be provided by the awardees, which include General Dynamics Information Technology Inc, Delphinus Engineering Inc, AMSEC LLC, QED Systems Inc, and Epsilon Systems Solutions Inc.
The deal has a five-year ordering period, which runs until September 2023. Work will be carried out at various US Navy bases, as well as shipyards, repair and contractor facilities worldwide.
