Saab has secured a contract to develop and deliver new lightweight torpedoes, as well as provide training, documentation and support services for four Hamina-class fast attack craft operated by the Finnish Navy under the Squadron 2000 mid-life upgrade programme.
The company will also perform the integration of the torpedoes on-board the Hamina-class ships in collaboration with Finnish company Patria.
The torpedoes are expected to boost the navy’s anti-submarine warfare capability and deliveries are set to commence this year.
BAE Systems has won a $$47.8m deal from the US Navy for upgrade works on the USS Howard (DDG 83) Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer.
The deal will include the refurbishment of the ship’s hull, mechanical and electrical parts, as well as the modernisation of its combat systems suite.
The upgrade programme will be performed at BAE’s shipyard in San Diego, California, US, for approximately 15 months.

The new P-8I training facility will be built at the INS Rajali naval air station in Tamil Nadu.
It is anticipated to provide realistic training for a variety of missions to the Indian Navy personnel at a low cost.
Comtech EF Data has been awarded a $19.13m deal for the sustainment of the advanced time division multiple access interface processor (ATIP) system.
The ATIP system is intended for installation on naval platforms and supports a Layer-2 Ethernet bridging capability among geographically dispersed users.
The deal was awarded by the US Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command and is slated to run through to January 2022.
