EDGE Group has secured licence to acquire intellectual property (IP) of the Brazilian national anti-ship missile MANSUP extended-range variant, the MANSUP-ER.

The missile has been developed by defence contractor SIATT.

The licence agreement, which covers the launch tube and combat head of the MANSUP, marks advancement to the next phase in the missile development.

It was signed between EDGE Group, SIATT, and the Brazilian Navy during the LAAD 2025 event at the Riocentro Exhibition & Convention Centre in Rio de Janeiro.

The agreement also outlines the terms for production, commercialisation, and royalties related to the MANSUP and MANSUP-ER missiles.

Following the acquisition of SIATT by EDGE, the company has expanded its manufacturing capabilities and secured contracts with the Brazilian Navy and the Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In 2024, EDGE Group entered a partnership with the Brazilian Navy to finalise the development of MANSUP.

The initial agreement, a letter of intent valued at around Dh600m ($162m), was signed with the Brazilian Navy on 15 November 2023.

EDGE is currently engaged in discussions with several potential international customers for the MANSUP missile.

The missile has features such as adaptive sea-skimming capabilities, a 200km range, inertial guidance, and active radar homing.

These are undergoing testing with the Brazilian naval fleet and are expected to be integrated into the Tamandaré class frigates by late 2025.

EDGE Group chief financial officer Rodrigo Torres said: “EDGE is confident that this milestone strengthens our commitment to advancing defence capabilities.

“Partnering with the Brazilian Navy and leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as MANSUP-ER, we can redefine strategic and operational readiness, offering more precise, efficient, and secure solutions to meet the challenges of the modern world.”

The MANSUP-ER missile, capable of reaching speeds of 954km/h and an endurance of 17 minutes, is equipped with an onboard altimeter, flexible 3D waypoints, and an active radar seeker.

EDGE has also entered a $300m contract with the UAE Armed Forces for MANSUP systems and is in advanced talks with potential buyers in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

In addition, EDGE and the Brazilian Navy have signed a letter of intent to co-develop anti-drone systems.

This collaboration aims to create counter-drone technologies designed to suit naval defence requirements, with particular focus on autonomous surface and aerial systems.

The joint initiative will use advanced sensors, including radars and electro-optical technologies, along with signal jamming capabilities to counter threats from autonomous air and surface vehicles.

A joint working group consisting of technical experts from both parties will be established to further this partnership.
