The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of two possible foreign military sales (FMS) of Harpoon Block II missiles and evolved seasparrow missiles (ESSM) to Finland.
The sale has a total estimated value of $734.7m and was requested by the Government of Finland before being approved by the US State Department.
Finland will possibly procure 100 units of RGM-84Q-4 Harpoon block II+ extended range (ER) Grade B surface-launched missiles and 12 RGM-84L-4 Harpoon block II Grade B surface-launched missiles as part of a deal valued at approximately $622m.
The potential sale also includes the delivery of 12 RGM-84Q-4 Harpoon block II+ ER Grade B surface-launched upgrade kits, four RTM-84L-4 Harpoon block II Grade B exercise surface-launched missiles and four RTM-84Q-4 Harpoon block II+ ER Grade B exercise surface-launched missiles.
Finland intends to deploy the Harpoon Block II missiles on-board the Finnish Navy’s Hamina-class vessels, multirole corvette ships and coastal batteries in order to offer improved defence capabilities to critical sea lanes.
Boeing will serve as the principal contractor for this sale.

By GlobalDataThe second estimated $112.7m sale will involve the procurement of 68 ESSMs and one ESSM inert operational missile, in addition to 17 MK25 quad pack canisters and eight MK783 shipping containers.
The ESSMs will be integrated on to the navy’s new Squadron 2020-class Corvette ships to provide enhanced defence capabilities for critical sea lanes, as well as address the current and future threats of enemy anti-ship weapons.
Raytheon Missile Systems’ facility in Tucson, Arizona, and BAE Systems’ unit in Aberdeen, South Dakota, will operate as the principal contractors for the deal.
Furthermore, the two sale packages cover US Government and contractor technical assistance, transportation, and engineering and logistics support services, in addition to other related elements of logistical support.
