Harris has secured a contract modification to deliver the next production lot of electronic countermeasures and jammers for the F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet aircraft.
The $212m contract is a modification to the existing contract to supply electronic jammers to protect US Navy and Foreign Military Sales F/A-18 aircraft against electronic threats.
This order involves manufacturing and delivering Harris ALQ-214A(V)4/5 Integrated Defensive Electronic Countermeasures (IDECM) jammers for the F/A-18C/D/E/F variants.
The ALQ-214A(V)4/5 jammer serves as the key on-board electronic warfare (EW) jamming system for the IDECM programme.
It has been designed to offer protection to the aircraft against electronic threats, including sophisticated integrated air defence systems.
Harris Electronic Systems president Ed Zoiss said: “Our commitment to continually modernise IDECM has helped to keep naval aviators ahead of emerging threats and out of harm’s way.

By GlobalData“The flawless delivery record to the navy over the past two decades is a remarkable achievement and a reflection of the dedication and hard work of the Harris EW team.”
To date, the firm has obtained $2bn in awards from the Naval Air Systems Command for the development and production of its AN/ALQ-214 jammer.
Harris noted that continuous modernisation efforts will protect naval aviators from evolving threats.
According to Harris, the contract represents the largest order on the programme so far. Harris is expected to complete deliveries of these jammers by August 2022.
In February last year, the US Department of Defence (DoD) awarded a contract to Harris to manufacture and deliver 86 IDECM AN/ALQ-214 A(V)4/5 on-board jammer systems for the US Navy and Australian F/A-18 aircraft.
The company won another DoD contract in March to provide 14 AN/ALQ-214 A(V)4/5 equipment to Kuwait.
