Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has secured a new contract to deliver Barak-8 air and missile defence systems to the Israel Navy’s Sa’ar-6 corvettes.
Barak-8 systems will be used by the navy to protect the country’s exclusive economic zone and strategic facilities.
The contract was led by the Israel Navy, the Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) and the procurement administration in Israel’s Ministry of Defense.
IAI Missiles & Space Group executive vice-president and general manager Boaz Levi said: “The procurement of Barak-8 system for the Sa’ar-6 corvettes will expand the operational capabilities of the Israeli Navy, including the defence of Israel’s territorial and exclusive economic zone.
“With land and naval modules, the system provides a complete response to a wide range of threats and is developed to work with other systems. Barak-8 is a proud member of the exclusive club that hosts Israel’s most successful global military developments.”
Barak-8 is an operational air and missile defence system that delivers broad aerial and point defence against a wide range of threats to the marine arena from the air, the sea or the land.
Used by the Israeli Navy, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force (IAF), Barak-8 integrates a number of new and advanced systems such as digital radar, command and control, launchers, interceptors with modern radio frequency (RF) seekers, Data link, and system-wide connectivity.
The Barak-8 systems have been developed by IAI together with DDR&D and India’s Defense Research and Development Organization, the navies of the two countries, Rafael, IAI’s ELTA Group, and local industries in India.
