Israel Aerospace Industries has completed the first phase of installing the MF-STAR (Magen Adir) radar on the new Sa’ar 6 corvette ships.
Installation was performed by IAI together with the Defense Ministry’s Administration for the Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure and the Israeli Navy.

It was completed under the guidance of Israel’s Ministry of Defense (IMoD) and the IDF.
The advanced MF-STAR radars, which will be installed on the ship’s masts in a new, box-like antenna configuration, are based on the latest active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology.
Developed by IAI subsidiary ELTA Systems, the radar solution includes four conformal phased array S-Band antennas providing 360° coverage.
AESA technology offered by the MF-STAR radars can provide faster threat alert response time and improved accuracy.

These radars will guard Israel’s strategic assets such as natural gas rigs and protect the country’s territorial waters.

Germany-based thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) is under contract to construct four Sa’ar-6 class missile corvettes.
The Sa’ar 6-corvettes have an overall length of 90m and a beam of approximately 13m. The displacement of each corvette is approximately 2,000t.
In May 2019, the first Sa’ar-6 class missile corvette was christened as INS Magen. It was handed over to the Israeli Navy in November last year.
The second next-generation Sa’ar-6 class missile corvette, ‘INS Oz’, was delivered to the Israeli Navy in May, while the remaining two corvettes of the series are scheduled for delivery later this year.
