Naval Group, formerly DCNS, has awarded a contract to maritime navigation and positioning specialist iXblue to install navigation systems on five of the French Navy’s new 4,000t frigates.

The deal will see the integration of iXblue’s Marins inertial navigation systems and Netans data distribution and processing units on-board the vessels.

iXblue Inertial Systems and Applications Division head Thomas Buret said: “This contract is the outcome of a long-standing collaboration with Naval Group, with whom we are working on several export programmes.

"This contract underlines the quality and reliability of iXblue navigation systems, which have become a standard in the naval defence market."

“However, it is the first time that iXblue systems have been chosen by Naval Group to equip a new-built major combat vessel for the French Navy.

“This contract underlines the quality and reliability of iXblue navigation systems, which have become a standard in the naval defence market.”

The Marins inertial navigation system is based on iXblue’s fibre optic gyroscope technology and is able to deliver precise position, heading, roll, pitch and speed information in any location, including global navigation satellite system (GNSS) denied environments.

The Netans data distribution and processing unit is designed to interface directly with the vessel’s sensors to acquire, analyse, correlate and distribute data to all systems on-board the ship.

iXblue’s Netans range offers reliable, consistent and exact navigation information in challenging scenarios, while addressing various cyber security challenges faced by navies worldwide.
