Kilo Solutions has secured a contract with the Royal Navy for the supply of 24 VASCO in a Box (VIAB) units.

This marks the company’s second defence contract.

VIAB is a transportable training system designed for onboard immersive training that is independent of local technical support.

According to Kilo Solutions, this system allows bridge watchkeeping, mission rehearsal, and skill fade mitigation, with a swift setup time of less than ten minutes.

Each VIAB unit is housed in a Peli case, ensuring that it can withstand the rigours of operational deployment.

The case contains four Meta Quest headsets, which provide a collaborative virtual reality training environment.

Additionally, a dedicated router is included to establish a secure, standalone local area network.

The units are also equipped with a preconfigured laptop loaded with VASCO Planner software along with a quick start guide.

This software grants instant access to a range of VASCO training scenarios, as well as the tools to design exercises.

Kilo Solutions managing director Andy Parkin said: “This is a significant contract for all at Kilo and further recognition that Multi-User Virtual Reality solutions, like VIAB, offer low cost / high impact training environments for our NATO Navies Bridge Teams, exemplified by the lead role adopted by the Royal Navy.“

This deal follows Kilo Solutions’ agreement with the US Navy’s Office of Naval Research, where the company’s commercial off-the-shelf VASCO product was adapted into the virtual bridge and navigational trainer, in 2023.

This adaptation was aimed at enhancing the naval training capabilities of the US Navy.
