Cohort’s wholly owned subsidiary, ELAC SONAR, has secured an order from Leonardo to support the Italian Navy’s new U212 Near Future Submarines (NFS).
Valued at $58m (€49m), the order will see ELAC provide sonar systems for two new U212 NFS.

ELAC will also provide special test and training tools, as well as related technical services.
Contractual work is expected to begin imminently and scheduled for completion in 2030. The order comes with options to provide sonars for another two U212 NFS submarines.
The U212NFS acquisition programme builds on the U212A programme conducted in partnership with Germany-based thyssenkrupp Marine Systems.
The programme is managed by Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matière d’Armement (OCCAR).
In February, Fincantieri said that the company, alongside Leonardo, would build two new-generation U212 NFS submarines and provide relevant logistics support for the Italian Navy.
Fincantieri is serving as prime contractor of the U212NFS contract, which is worth €1.35bn ($1.64bn).
This contract also includes options for two more new-generation U212 NFS submarines.
Deliveries of the first two submarines are planned for 2027 and 2029.
