The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a possible foreign military sale (FMS) of Evolved SeaSparrow Missiles (ESSMs) to Mexico.
The $41m sale was requested by the Government of Mexico and has since been approved by the US State Department.
Under the proposed deal, Mexico intends to acquire six Evolved Seasparrow tactical missiles and two Evolved Seasparrow telemetry missiles.
The possible sale will also include the delivery of one MK56 VLS launcher (8-cell), eight MK30 canisters, eight MK783 shipping containers, spare and repair parts, and other support and test equipment.
The FMS will also cover the provision of US Government contractor, engineering and technical support services, in addition to other related technical assistance.
The proposed sale is intended to support the foreign policy and national security of the US while enhancing the security of Mexico.

By GlobalDataIf delivered, the new ESSM weapon systems are expected to be used on board the Mexican Navy’s Sigma 10514 class vessel.
The shipboard systems will help the country significantly increase and bolster its maritime operations, as well as provide enhanced defence capabilities of critical sea lanes.
This will help improve the Mexican Navy’s maritime partnership potential and align its capabilities with existing regional navies.
Raytheon Missile Systems will serve as the primary contractor to the proposed deal.
Being an international cooperative upgrade of the RIM-7 Seasparrow Missile, the ESSM offers self-defence battlespace and firepower against high-speed, highly manoeuvrable anti-ship missiles in the naval environment.
