Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest has awarded a contract for the critical cleaning and disinfection of areas with confirmed Covid-19 cases.

The cleaning services will be carried out at military facilities in the NAVFAC Southwest area of responsibility to contain the further spread of the virus.

The indefinite delivery-indefinite quantity (IDIQ) task order, which has a ceiling value of $2.6m, has been awarded to EWA Direction of Honolulu, Hawaii.

NAVFAC Southwest Facility Support Contracts Product Line director Alan Lacuesta said: “Requests for cleaning and disinfecting of confirmed Covid-19 cases have been fast and furious.

“We have processed 43 requests since the blanket task order was awarded, an average of nearly two per day. It’s definitely a unified effort between NAVFAC Southwest, EWA Direction, and our military installations.”

Typically, requests for cleaning are processed by EWA Direction in less than three hours. The company is currently in an existing biomedical waste disposal contract with NAVFAC Southwest.

The cleaning services contract for Covid-19 has been awarded to the same company because of its ability to handle hazardous cleaning situations.

Lacuesta added: “Our main objective is to ensure the safety of our military, civilian and contractor personnel and we are proud to support the global battle against this invisible enemy.”

Last week, NAVFAC Marianas awarded a contract for environmental services at Joint Region Marianas (JRM) to Guam-based Landscape Management Systems (LMS).

Work under the IDIQ $25m task order will include the operation of a conforming storage facility, management of satellite accumulation sites and initial accumulation points, as well as the daily management and collection of less-than-90-day storage facilities.
