Built by French company DCNS, the 67.5m-long submarine has a displacement capacity of 1,550t and can accommodate a crew quantity of 31.
In June 2002, DCNS received a contract from the Malaysian government for the construction of two Scorpene submarines along with associated logistics and training.
During a two-month voyage from France, the submarine will have completed successful passage through the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and the Malacca Straits.
KD Tun Razak has also visited four ports, including Alexandria in Egypt, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, Salalah in Oman and Cochin in India.
Following the arrival at Teluk Sepanggar, the submarine will undergo scheduled maintenance to begin comprehensive sea trials in the tropical waters of the region.
