Newport News Shipbuilding, a unit of Huntington Ingalls Industries, has secured a $2.8bn contract for work on the USS George Washington (CVN 73) nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.
The company will perform a refuelling and complex overhaul of the CVN 73 up to August 2021.
USS George Washington's compartments, tanks, catapults, flight deck and combat systems are set to be modernised under the deal, which was awarded by the US Naval Sea Systems Command.
BAE Systems has won a $76m contract from the US Navy to develop communications and electronics technology for the US Naval Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD).
The company will support the design, development and maintenance of new and existing communication and electronics for the NAWCAD as part of the arrangement.
BAE Systems is also expected to provide support for the testing, installation and integration of mission equipment and systems for the Special Communications Mission Solutions Division.

The kits will be produced at Raytheon’s manufacturing plant in Indianapolis, Indiana, and will be used on-board the CH-53E Heavy Lift helicopter.
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems has secured a $24.67m deal to deliver antenna group assemblies to the US Navy.
The assemblies will be produced at Northrop Grumman’s facility in Baltimore, Maryland, through to November 2021.
The contract has been awarded by the US Defense Logistics Agency Aviation.
Leidos has received a contract valued $31.4m to provide tactical signature guidance support services to the US Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD).
The contract will cover engineering, scientific, technical and programme management services, and is intended to support signature guidance and tactical decision aids for naval ships and undersea systems.
The company is also set to provide associated software and system development, integration and testing services as part of the deal, which has one-year base period with four additional one-year options.
