Sparton and Ultra Electronics' joint venture (JV) Erapsco has been awarded subcontracts worth a combined $30.3m to produce sonobuoys for the US Navy.

The current deal is a part of GFY17 Erapsco indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract release for sonobuoy requirements under the JV’s five-year contract.

As part of the award, Erapsco will deliver production subcontracts worth $18.5m and $11.8m to Ultra Electronics USSI and Sparton De Leon Springs respectively.

Ultra Electronics chief executive Rakesh Sharma said: “I am pleased that we have secured this important contract that will continue to provide critical sensor capabilities to the US Navy.

Expected to be completed by November next year, the production of sonobuoys will be carried out at Ultra Electronics USSI’s Columbia City, Indiana facility, and Sparton’s De Leon Springs, Florida manufacturing unit.
